Hey Everyone, So I work for a satellite office of a media company. Our location does graphics and video editing for the most part. We have 10 Mac Pros right now. They are about 4 to 5 years old and are starting to slowly, but surely, break down. They spent over $13000 each on these and I need to budget in replacements for next year. The Mac Pros were maxed out when they were purchased. They are good computers, but nothing lasts forever. What do you recommend I go with next year? If we have the spend the same amount or more on the new Mac Pros, whenever they come out, we will, but if there are some alternatives that will work as well or better, I am all ears. I don't know enough about graphics to be able to provide a professional opinion to my managers. I would personally spend half that amount on PCs and build some real monsters that are going to be 10 times more powerful than the Macs. That's just my opinion. The office here is a bit obsessed with Apple products. Which computer would be best suited computer graphics and video editing. They mostly use Creative Cloud Apps. Cinema 4D, and few other graphics related programs Thanks! Since your a media outfit and rely on production and schedules for your paycheck, I would continue to use the machines similar to what your using now. If your staff is comfortable and proficient at using them how much time can they be down trying to figure out the nuances of another system? Normally I would probably recommend a change to something other than Apple but look at the business and production side of the issue. Do any of the editors want to try another system? Do they want to learn a different one? Download Madhavi Climax Akashadooth Emotional Dialogue song free! Akashadoothu serial. If there are a couple that would like to try a monster PC build, maybe try a couple and see what happens if the editors would like to try. As IT support you should never dictate what they should be using, you should be supporting what they need. Talk to them and offer options. I build a truly sick PC for less than half. I just wanted to see if there were any advantages to having Macs (other than fanboys being obsessed with them) Thanks! In graphics editing the big differences disappeared years ago, it just really comes down to user preference now. Mac has always been the better system for video editing. That is what it is designed for. However between the laptop and the desktop, not much difference. Just make sure you get a comparable screen if you go the way of Windows. The screen is one of the biggest differences between standard windows PC's and Macs that designers love. Have to make it sure it has the same color set and brightness. Like chris said the surface studio has a really nice one in a cool form factor, so it may be worth trialling one of those, as then you get the convenience of an All-in-one as well. Generally, Adobe apps are adobe apps, esp. With the current CC 20XX versions. If budget is not a limiting factor (given how this was handled last time), the key deciding factors should be A) What the users are accustomed to: If they don't know Windows, that's probably going to be a huge problem in terms of user productivity. B) What else is in use elsewhere in the company - If an exception was made last time, what was the basis for that exception, and were appropriate resourced allocated to support it? Training for you/IT support, requisite administration/support software, etc. C) Who will be supporting them (you and?) and his/her expertise in supporting OS X. Since Apple does not make stand alone screens any more it is a level playing field as far as screens go on non-all-in-one computers. ![]() The Studio is a nice form factor and the pen and dial give artists some powerful tools for creating. To come close you would have to connect the Mac to something like a high-end Cintiq display which costs roughly the same as the Studio itself. However, the machine is limited to a quad core i7 mobile processor. The workstations that are being replaced have 12 core Xeon processors that still significantly outperform the CPU in the Studio in processor intensive scenarios. The Dual AMD video cards are roughly equivalent to the 980 Ti. The maxed out Studio has the M version of the 980 and not the Ti version so, despite being several years newer, it is noticeably slower on the graphics front as well.
